About the City

Once again, I will be here to give you a quick tour around Southampton! This time, it will feature more on the city center where most of the goodies are. Anyway, the City Center itself is a pretty small place. Even for a city, it's only about the same size as Bukit Jalil. The place also lacks cars which is pretty much found in large numbers in typical cities. So, what then does a small city center has to offer. Admittedly, nothing much... but it does have the essentials for students. First, we have....

Asda! Basically, Asda is like Carrefore or Giant of UK. It has all the necessary household items for a reduced price. Every one of us had to drag large amounts of plastic bags filled to the brim with items the first time we came to Asda XD Ah, how painful my arm was carrying all those heavy bags :(

Next on the list we have West Quay. West Quay is the only major shopping complex around town. No, the glass building is not the complex but just a bridge connecting the two buildings of the complex together.

Having said that, West Quay is still pretty much smaller in size when compared to the likes of Mid Valley or 1U. It has only three floors and the third floor is just a food court. But since it's the only one within travelling distance, I can't complain. Anyway, there are still lots of people in West Quay, comparable to the crowd back in Malaysia.

The building behind me is the Southampton Civic Centre, home of the Southampton City Council. This building is arguably the center of the city center itself. One neat feature of the building is that it has a bell that strikes every 15 minutes to tell the time. And the manner of which it strikes is similar to those old style bell ringing you used to hear in those old English schools in Malaysia.

And what trip of a port city would be complete without a visit to the port itself? The port itself has many car carriers, exporting or importing cars from or to other places in the world. It is also a stopping point for many cruise liners.

And here are 3 pictures out of 5 cruise liners that were docked at the port at the time of my visit. The liners were extremely huge up close since it is an international cruise liner. Anyway, when this picture was taken, I was on a short tour around the port on a tugboat (I think...)

And for today's weather forecast, cloudy with a chance of meatballs rain. That's all folks. See you again next time!
