Penang Trip: Part 1

As some of you might have already known, last week I went on an eating trip to Penang with a bunch of friends, namely Yu Gin, Ren Ping, Dorothy and Tjun Hoe. It lasted from Monday to Thursday, that is the 22nd June to 25th June. It was great fun and the food was pretty great... a nice experience overall. First, on the matter of getting there. We (actually mostly Tjun Hoe) managed to book AirAsia tickets to Penang at only about RM 80 per person. To be truthful, this was actually my first time using AirAsia and I had my doubts. But surprisingly, it was rather pleasant except for the fact that the airplane food are freaking expensive. The plane was delayed for 20 minutes but that was acceptable considering the horror stories I've heard before of AirAsia flights being delayed for a pretty long period. So, like the bored people we are, we decided to take some photos.

Yes, we wore masks that day. Better be safe than sorry, y'know?

Yu Gin can't wait to become a surgeon. So he felt the need to pose like one.

When we reached the Penang airport, the first thing we did was to rent a car. After all, taxis are expensive and it would be much more convenient for us to drive around on our own. At first, we thought of driving up from Selangor all the way up to Penang by car. But unfortunately, none of our parents would hear of that. Initially had trouble renting a car due to age limitations, but finally got a Proton Waja for about RM 130 a day, which was about RM 80 divided among us. A little expensive, I thought... but it's not like we had much of a choice.

Our rented car plate number.

From the airport, made our way to Berjaya Hotel Georgetown. Again with Tjun Hoe's help, managed to get the hotel stay absolutely free! Thanks again, TJ! I was worried at first that we need to pay for hidden charges. XD We booked connecting two rooms, one with a king size bed and another with two single beds. Boys got king size bed, girls get single bed. Spent the whole afternoon playing Uno....

Us circling around the Uno table. It's quite a noisy thingamajig

After a while, we got hungry and went to Gurney Drive to eat. Bad decision.... BAD! Note to travellers planning to go Penang, avoid that place. The food is substandard and they charge atrocious prizes. Though, we did have a man selling rojak there who kept singing 'Rojak, Rojak' in rhythm with some techno tracks blaring in the background. That was quite amusing, too bad we didn't have a video recorder with us. :/

At Gurney Drive... won't be going there anytime soon

Yes, Tjun Hoe... we know you didn't like the food

After the meal, we had a stroll down the road overlooking the sea. Also had a few pictures taken. According to Yu Gin, when night comes, this is a popular place for lovers to just sit there and stare out towards the sea. Don't know where he got that from... hmmm.. :D

Someone feeling perverted... naughty Yu Gin!

Feeling unsatisfied with the food at Gurney Drive, we set off into the night searching for an alternative food court to eat. At last, we settled at some random food court which I forgot the name and where it was. Now, the oyster omelet there was ten times better than the one in Gurney but the noodles left much to be desired.

Some nice oyster omelet... yum yum...

After back, went back to hotel and play cards till the wee hours of the morning. Pssst... Dorothy can't lie with a straight face :P You can tell when she's lying XD

Yes.... we were playing Bluff.

That's it for now..... Expect part 2 or even part 3 soon. Till then, stay happy :D
