Of Misconceptions and Annoyances

So, 8 days after my last post and I don't really have a good topic to blog about. Blame my reclusive life of holing up in my house and the fact that I've been busy preparing to spend the next phase of my life in the UK. So, there I was thinking what should I blog about next when my handphone rang. And who did it turn out to be other than one of my aunts. Apparently, one of her relatives had a health problem and asked me whether a certain herb is good for her. Now, myself not being qualified to answer, (a politically correct replacement for the phrase 'I don't know') I just told her I can't help her with that particular question. Then, she said that phrase that I've been hearing a lot recently:

'But you're already a 3rd year medical student. Sure know the answer one already right?'

Therein lies the whole problem. True, I'm a 3rd year medical student and true, I do know more than the average joe. But that doesn't mean I can answer every medical question thrown at me! Heck, if I know all those answers, I would be acing those tests a month ago. What more if it has something to do with Chinese complimentary medicine, something which we never learn. Look, I always try to help as the best I can. But if I don't know something, means that I really don't know, ok? After all, it's worse to harm people by feeding them false info, right?

Yes, I am particularly annoyed at those aunties and uncles calling me over their medical problems, just because they doubt their own doctor's advice. And when you can't answer the questions, they try to make you feel dumb. Sometimes, I feel they just want to try my patience =.=

Another problem is those same aunties and uncles thinks that all doctors are rich people. Sometimes, they kinda sound like this:
'Oh you know ah, that doctor operate one time charge me RM 10k! Wah, doctors can earn so much money!'
The thing is they don't realise a lot of the money also goes to paying for the medication and hospital equipment. Now, I don't say that all doctors are poor. Of course, there are rich doctors earning a few hundred thousand dollars a year. But those kind of doctors are not very common. What's worse is that those aunties and uncles ask me for money even before I graduate. They even planned out which restaurant they gonna go to when I start working!
'Eh, you earn a lot of money next time la. How much you gonna give me? You know ah, next time I would want to eat Japanese buffet.'
Can't they wait for my first paycheck to come? When my first paycheck comes, I think I'm gonna be left with like only 10% of my salary >.>
